Chapel is a recurring character in the early spawn universe. Originally from the comic series Youngblood, Chapel was written in during collaboration between Rob Liefeld and Todd Mcfarlane and appeared in both the comics and the animated series, but not the motion picture.
Chapel was Al Simmons subordinate in the CIA, and both have been paired up on numerous black ops missions across the world. Later on under orders from Jason Wynn, Chapel betrayed and shot Al in the face, killing him. 5 years later in the storyline, Al came back as Spawn.
In the motion picture, due to contractual rights, Chapel was not written into the screenplay. Later arguments between Rob and Todd ended Chapel's appearances entirely.
